USB-C sample acceptance should verify the exact supplied model in the intended board and equipment. A sample that powers one device once is not yet an accepted connector configuration. Separate identity, orientation, electrical performance and mechanical attachment so each result has a clear meaning.
Start with the candidate's controlled documentation from the USB-C family. Record the supplier's orderable code and drawing revision alongside your internal sample identifier. This prevents a later shipment of a similar-looking part from inheriting approval without review.

Establish the sample identity
Photograph the packaging label and representative parts. Compare terminal arrangement, shell features and locating details with the approved drawing. If the marking is abbreviated, keep the correspondence supplied by the drawing owner rather than guessing the full part number.
State whether the samples are loose components, hand-built boards or production-intent assemblies. Each can answer useful questions, but their findings are different. Loose parts can support dimensional inspection; they cannot establish the quality of a soldering process that has not been run.
Test both plug orientations deliberately
USB-IF identifies reversible plug orientation as part of the USB-C connector concept. Give the orientations separate entries in the acceptance record. Do not rely on an operator remembering to flip the cable between unrelated trials.
| Acceptance line | Required record |
|---|---|
| Sample identity | Model, drawing and assembly revisions |
| Orientation one | Supported functions and observed operating state |
| Orientation two | Same functions under the same conditions |
| Mating behavior | Engagement and release observations |
| Post-test inspection | Electrical and attachment condition |
Use identified cables and equipment. If changing orientation also changes a cable or source, the results no longer isolate orientation.
Measure resistance with a defined method
Identify the path being measured and where the sense points are located. A measurement including long leads or PCB traces differs from a contact-only result. Preserve the setup details so a later sample can be compared fairly.
Set initial and post-test limits from the component specification and application requirements. Do not create acceptance values from the best sample in a small batch. Record trends as well as individual failures when the plan includes handling or environmental exposure.

Include the installed mechanical condition
Check engagement with the enclosure fitted and the intended cable attached. Inspect shell joints and nearby board support after the agreed handling sequence. Communication success alone does not demonstrate secure retention.
For a hypothetical handheld meter, a connector might pass electrical checks on an exposed board but fail to seat fully behind the front bezel. The mechanical result remains open even though the bench circuit works.
Release the sample with an explicit list of passed checks, unresolved items and approved configurations. Keep untested power states or environmental conditions visible. This allows the sample approval to support a purchase decision without expanding it into a claim that the underlying evidence never established.

Discuss a drawing, sample or quotation
Share the part or family reference, current drawing revision, operating conditions and quantities. Include the specific checks described in this article so the inquiry identifies both the component and the evidence needed for your decision. Confirm sample availability and the proposed scope with the supplier.
