A useful connector nonconformance report lets another investigator understand what happened, identify the specimens and reproduce the relevant condition. A photograph with the description defective connector rarely provides enough information. The evidence pack should separate the observed symptom from the proposed cause.
TE's quality-complaint handling handbook illustrates the value of part, order, batch, label and specimen information. Its particular submission process applies to TE; use the actual supplier's process for a selected item such as a candidate from the USB-C family.

Define the observation quantitatively
State the affected item number, drawing revision, received quantity and observed suspect quantity. Identify where the issue was detected and the inspection or operating condition used. Describe the requirement that appears not to be met.
Keep the symptom distinct from a cause hypothesis. A port disconnecting under cable movement is an observation; declaring the shell material weak is an explanation that still requires evidence.
Record relevant history, including assembly, rework, mating or exposure before detection. Two visually identical specimens can have very different histories, and that difference may matter to the investigation.
Preserve identity and original condition
Photograph labels and representative assemblies before teardown. Assign specimen identifiers and keep suspect, comparison and untouched samples separate. Record any cleaning, remating, probing or disassembly performed during investigation.
| Pack section | Information to include |
|---|---|
| Product identity | Supplier code, internal code and revision |
| Batch context | Order, label and received quantities |
| Observation | Location, method and actual result |
| Reproduction | Equipment, steps and relevant conditions |
| Specimens | IDs, history and preservation status |
| Comparison | Requirement and valid reference evidence |
Avoid sending all available suspect material into destructive analysis at once. Agree the investigation sequence and retain the evidence needed for comparison.
Make reproduction practical
Describe the setup so another team can repeat it. Include cable or mating references, board revision, fixture arrangement and instrument settings relevant to the event. Annotate images with the observed location and viewing direction.
For a hypothetical controller port, disconnects occurring only with the enclosure fitted should be reported that way. A loose-board demonstration answers a narrower question and may remove the mechanical condition responsible for the symptom.
If the issue cannot yet be reproduced, state that clearly and preserve the conditions already observed. Do not convert an intermittent symptom into a claimed continuous failure simply to make the report sound definite.

Define the next investigation decision
List the questions that the supplied evidence can answer and the additional material needed. Record the agreed handling and return of specimens through the supplier's actual process.
The pack should support containment and analysis without assigning responsibility before the mechanism is established. A traceable, reproducible report gives engineering and purchasing a common basis for the next action while keeping unsupported conclusions out of the formal complaint record.

A catalog drawing reference is a starting document, not a substitute for reviewing its revision, options and suitability for the complete assembly.

Discuss a drawing, sample or quotation
Share the part or family reference, current drawing revision, operating conditions and quantities. Include the specific checks described in this article so the inquiry identifies both the component and the evidence needed for your decision. Confirm sample availability and the proposed scope with the supplier.
