A connector plating specification should define the complete surface system, including the base material, intermediate layers, outer finish and the areas where each applies. A note such as gold plated does not establish the contact interface, soldering condition or inspection method needed to manufacture a repeatable terminal.

Divide the terminal by function
Identify the mating zone, transition, solder tail or crimp barrel and any forming or carrier features. These regions may need different treatments. Show the functional areas on the drawing instead of assuming a supplier will interpret a general finish note in the same way as the designer.
Define the condition after the relevant manufacturing steps. Forming or cutting can expose edges that were not part of the original plated surface. If the product depends on coverage at those edges, discuss the process sequence and required evidence explicitly.
Specify a stack that can be inspected
| Element | Information to establish |
|---|---|
| Base material | Alloy, condition and controlled source requirements |
| Intermediate layer | Material, coverage and thickness requirement where applicable |
| Outer finish | Material and functional zone |
| Measurement | Location, method and how multiple layers are interpreted |
| Exceptions | Permitted transitions, exposed edges and carrier-contact areas |
Use units and a clear minimum, range or other agreed acceptance definition. Do not mix a nominal process target with the minimum thickness required at a functional location. A measured average across convenient points may not address the specified contact zone.
Keep the mating pair in view
Review the finish on both sides of the separable interface, together with contact force, wipe and operating environment. The correct selection is a contact-system decision. Changing the finish on only one half can introduce a combination that has not been evaluated.
The CZT connector electroplating family includes SFP and USB terminal references for discussion. Those labels identify relevant catalog work; they do not establish an approved stack, thickness or compatibility for a customer's design.

Connect the drawing to the process record
Ask the supplier to describe how the specified zones and measurements will be controlled. For selective plating, include the boundary definition. For formed terminals, ensure the inspection can reach the required area in the agreed production state.
Approve samples against the complete definition, keeping the report tied to the terminal revision and finish designation. If the base alloy, intermediate layer, finish source or operation sequence changes, review the affected evidence. A matching color or unchanged terminal outline does not demonstrate that the surface system is still equivalent. The purchasing record should identify which features are fixed and which alternatives need engineering approval before production parts are released.
Connect this review to CZT product information
Start with the relevant CZT product family and provide the original interface reference or controlled drawing. Ask which configurations and supporting documents are available for the task described here. Confirm the mating arrangement, required features and project conditions before choosing an orderable part.

Share the part or family reference, current drawing revision, operating conditions and quantities. Include the specific checks described in this article so the inquiry identifies both the component and the evidence needed for your decision. Confirm sample availability and the proposed scope with the supplier.
