A shared technical clarification log should turn an incomplete connector inquiry into a traceable set of decisions. Engineering needs evidence for the design, while purchasing needs an unambiguous item and quotation scope. One controlled log helps both teams see which questions are resolved and which still block the next step.
For an inquiry involving the RJ45 integrated-magnetics family, the starting point may include a candidate model, board constraints and unresolved circuit details. The catalog record supports identification; open requirements must still be resolved through the relevant documents and review.

Give each question a concrete form
Assign an identifier and write the question around a specific feature or decision. Include the relevant drawing, schematic or quotation revision and explain why the answer matters.
Separate the requested fact from a proposed solution. Asking which terminal connects to a named circuit is different from asking the supplier to redesign the interface. Clear wording prevents an ordinary clarification from becoming an unreviewed scope change.
Record an owner and required decision point. Use real project timing rather than adding an arbitrary response deadline to every question.
Distinguish evidence states
Use explicit statuses such as awaiting information, proposed interpretation, awaiting test and confirmed. Define what each status means within the project. A reply received is not automatically a confirmed technical answer.
| Log field | Useful content |
|---|---|
| Question ID | Stable reference used in related documents |
| Requirement or feature | Exact item under discussion |
| Evidence requested | Drawing, measurement or other supporting record |
| Owner and status | Person responsible and current decision state |
| Resolution | Accepted answer and its authority |
| Document impact | Files and revisions that must change |
Keep assumptions visible until the responsible reviewer confirms them. This is especially useful when a quotation must proceed while some engineering decisions remain open.
Resolve contradictions before closing items
Compare the answer with the other controlled records. If a drawing, email and sample appear inconsistent, identify the controlling document and obtain a clarified version. Do not let the team select whichever source gives the most convenient result.
For a hypothetical connector inquiry, a sample may fit the prototype panel while the current drawing shows a different projection. The item should remain open until the sample identity and drawing relationship are understood. One successful trial cannot resolve an unexplained version mismatch.
Record supporting attachments by reference and preserve their revisions. A link to a file that is later overwritten can remove the basis of the decision.

Carry decisions into the order definition
Update the drawing, BOM, inspection plan or quotation when the resolution affects it. Record the new revision and verify that the related purchase or sample order uses that definition.
Before the next approval gate, review unresolved items and their actual effect on the decision. Archive the completed log with the project evidence. The value is a clear engineering and purchasing record that prevents known questions from disappearing into separate messages, while keeping provisional assumptions from silently becoming production requirements.
Connect this review to CZT product information
Examples for applying this worksheet are listed below. Use the identifiers to request the current drawing and confirm the configuration required by your application.
| Catalog reference | Product information | Drawing record | Reference inquiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| QWY-1062-7 | 4001 Series 8-position modular socket, QWY-1062-7 | Listed PDF | Ask about this reference |
| QWY-1013-10 | 8P8C modular plug, QWY-1013-10 | Listed PDF | Ask about this reference |
A catalog drawing reference is a starting document, not a substitute for reviewing its revision, options and suitability for the complete assembly.

Discuss a drawing, sample or quotation
Share the part or family reference, current drawing revision, operating conditions and quantities. Include the specific checks described in this article so the inquiry identifies both the component and the evidence needed for your decision. Confirm sample availability and the proposed scope with the supplier.
