Wall thickness, ribs and bosses should be reviewed as a connected casting system. Adding material can improve a local mechanical section while making filling, cooling or dimensional consistency more difficult. Design for manufacture therefore asks how the complete geometry will be produced and verified, not simply whether every wall exceeds a chosen minimum.

Look for transitions, not only thin spots
Create sections through the nominal wall, rib intersections, screw bosses and mounting pads. Identify sudden changes in mass, isolated thick areas and long flow paths. The practical limits depend on the alloy, casting process, tool layout and part size, so seek a supplier response to the actual model.
A very tight dimensional requirement near a thick junction may be harder to maintain than the same requirement on a simpler section. Bring the functional reason for that requirement to the review so the team can consider geometry changes instead of merely increasing inspection effort.
Build a feature review table
| Feature | Design question | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal wall | Is the section consistent with the intended process? | Marked section views and supplier comments |
| Rib | Does it reinforce the needed direction without creating an unnecessary mass concentration? | Geometry proposal and assembly rationale |
| Boss | Can the thread and load path be supported? | Fastener definition and machining plan |
| Transition | Can the shape change more gradually? | Revised geometry and affected dimensions |
| Local pad | Does it need machining rather than added bulk? | Functional surface definition |
These are review prompts, not fixed ratios for every casting. Final dimensions and acceptance criteria should be agreed for the project rather than copied from a generic example.
Check what a proposed change affects
Moving a rib may free the process but block a cable or assembly tool. Coring a boss may change stiffness or thread engagement. Examine the casting together with its mating parts and the planned fasteners. Review appearance and surface treatment where a local geometry change could become visible after finishing.
The CZT precision die-casting family provides MINI SAS, OSFP and other structural-part references for inquiry. A reference identifies a catalog concept; it does not establish a validated wall limit or prove the geometry is suitable for a different interface.

Close DFM with measurable requirements
Ask which features will be checked as cast and which after machining. Connect critical dimensions to datums that survive the planned operations. If internal quality or sealing matters, identify the necessary evaluation separately from dimensional inspection.
Record agreed geometry changes, open risks and the evidence required from trial parts. A DFM review is most useful when it changes the production definition and the verification plan together. A list of manufacturability concerns without an owner, drawing revision or follow-up measurement does not resolve the design decision.
Connect this review to CZT product information
Start with the relevant CZT product family and provide the original interface reference or controlled drawing. Ask which configurations and supporting documents are available for the task described here. Confirm the mating arrangement, required features and project conditions before choosing an orderable part.

Discuss a drawing, sample or quotation
Share the part or family reference, current drawing revision, operating conditions and quantities. Include the specific checks described in this article so the inquiry identifies both the component and the evidence needed for your decision. Confirm sample availability and the proposed scope with the supplier.
