An offset RJ45 jack can help position the interface relative to a height-limited PCB, but the tradeoff must be checked on both sides of the board. Moving part of the body below the PCB can create underside interference or additional board-fabrication requirements.
Begin with the drawing of the actual candidate in the CZT modular jack family. “Offset” describes a construction approach; the drawing defines its real seating position, board opening and pin layout.
Define the height constraint accurately
Identify whether the limitation is measured from the top of the PCB, a mounting datum or the enclosure base. State whether component tolerances and board position are already included. Two teams can both use “available height” while measuring from different references.
Check the mated plug and cable boot as well. Lowering the jack body does not necessarily reduce every part of the installed connection envelope.

Review the PCB opening and keepouts
Copy the specified cutout, holes and mounting references into the board design using the stated view direction. Confirm board thickness and tolerances against the component requirements. Avoid interpreting the body outline as the recommended board opening.
Inspect copper, traces and components around the cutout. Determine which mechanical and electrical keepouts apply to the exact construction, then coordinate them with the PCB manufacturer.
Use an offset-jack fit worksheet
| Interface | Information to close |
|---|---|
| Upper envelope | Body and mated-plug clearance to lid or panel |
| Lower envelope | Body, pins and solder clearance below PCB |
| Board opening | Defined cutout, tolerances and fabrication method |
| Seating | Component reference and board-thickness condition |
| Nearby hardware | Standoffs, screws and enclosure ribs |
| Assembly | Insertion direction and soldering access |
The worksheet makes the displaced volume visible. A height-saving concept is only useful when its new underside requirements are acceptable.

Work through a hypothetical packaging decision
Suppose a product has limited space above the PCB but an enclosure rib below it. An offset candidate may satisfy the upper limit while colliding with the rib. Moving the rib, moving the PCB or selecting another jack are separate design choices with different consequences.
A three-dimensional interference check can identify the conflict, but the released decision should still refer to the controlled dimensions and tolerances. A nominally clear model is not a substitute for that review.
Sign off the first assembled board
Inspect connector seating, PCB-edge condition, solder access and the complete mated envelope. Verify the board can be installed and removed without loading the jack incorrectly.
Retain the cutout detail and first-board observations with the approved part record. Future offset variants should be compared against those references rather than assumed compatible because they share a family description.

Catalog references to discuss are listed below. Use the identifiers to request the current drawing and confirm the configuration required by your application.
| Catalog reference | Product information | Drawing record | Reference inquiry |
|---|---|---|---|
