Verify an RJ45 PCB footprint by tracing every pad, hole and locating feature back to the controlled component drawing. A footprint that appears correct in a library preview can still be mirrored, measured from the wrong datum or incompatible with the actual board process.
Use the exact candidate in the CZT modular jack family. Library names are convenient references, but the approved footprint should identify the model and drawing revision it was checked against.
Confirm view direction and units first
Determine whether the manufacturer's footprint is shown from the component side or another direction. Mark the mating face and board edge in the CAD review. Resolve unit conversions explicitly before checking individual dimensions.
These first steps prevent systematic mistakes. A mirrored footprint can have internally consistent dimensions while assigning the wrong physical position to every pin.

Separate hole and pad functions
Identify signal holes or pads, shield attachment, locating pegs and mechanical retention features. Each may have a different dimensional and manufacturing requirement. Do not apply one generic hole rule to every feature.
Review finished-hole requirements with the PCB manufacturer where applicable. A drawing dimension and a fabrication tool size are not automatically the same instruction. Keep the component requirement and board-process interpretation traceable.
Complete the footprint signoff sheet
| Review field | Evidence |
|---|---|
| Identity | Component model and drawing revision |
| Orientation | View direction, mating face and board edge |
| Signal mapping | Schematic net to physical pad or hole |
| Mechanical features | Location, size and required function |
| Keepouts | Body, mating and assembly clearance |
| Manufacturing | Board thickness and fabrication interpretation |
| First board | Actual seating, alignment and solder observations |
Have a reviewer check the footprint independently from the person who created it. The review should use the source drawing rather than another copy of the same library geometry.

Inspect the first assembled PCB
Check the real part on the manufactured board before closing the library approval. Confirm that it seats as intended, that the panel relationship is correct and that soldering access is adequate.
For a hypothetical first board, the signal holes might fit while a locating feature prevents full seating. That finding would not appear in an electrical pin-map check alone. Record the dimensional cause before changing the footprint.
Control revisions after approval
Keep the approved footprint, drawing and inspection record linked. If a later connector variant changes a peg, shell tab or LED arrangement, compare it with the approved geometry instead of assuming the base family name implies compatibility.
The result is a reusable library asset with an evidence trail. That is more valuable than a footprint that happens to work once but cannot be confidently reviewed when the part or board process changes.

Catalog references to discuss are listed below. Use the identifiers to request the current drawing and confirm the configuration required by your application.
| Catalog reference | Product information | Drawing record | Reference inquiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESP130500 | Recessed RJ45 1x1 8-position jack, ESP130500 | Request the current drawing | Ask about this reference |
| ESP130501 | Recessed RJ45 1x3 8-position jack, ESP130501 | Listed PDF | Ask about this reference |
A catalog drawing reference is a starting document, not a substitute for reviewing its revision, options and suitability for the complete assembly.
