Qualify an alternative SFP cage or receptacle by comparing the complete installed interface and production process. A matching port shape or nominal form-factor name does not establish drop-in equivalence. The second-source review should identify differences explicitly, then assign evidence to the functions those differences can affect.

Figure 1. Official CZT SFP28 cage drawing illustrates the controlled mechanical information required when comparing a proposed alternative source. CZT source · Original PDF, page 1.
Compare controlled drawings first
Obtain the current drawings for the existing and candidate parts. Compare cage mounting features, receptacle footprint, seating height, panel position, latch geometry and any heat-transfer or grounding features. Check view orientation and datum definitions before marking dimensions as equal.
CZT's fiber-optic and pluggable-I/O family provides cage and connector catalog references for an alternative-part discussion. The presence of an SFP+ or SFP28 label is not evidence of interchangeability with an unnamed incumbent part.
Review assembly and rework
Compare recommended PCB conditions, insertion or soldering methods and tooling access. Determine whether the factory can assemble and inspect the candidate within its validated process. Include the extraction or replacement method if rework is part of the production plan.
SNIA's SFF specification library distinguishes mechanical, electrical and management-interface work. Use the applicable specifications and revisions to organize the review, while keeping the candidate's actual drawings and test evidence as the procurement basis.
Use a second-source gap table
| Function | Difference to identify | Evidence to close it |
|---|---|---|
| Board fit | Hole, pad, height or keepout change | Layout comparison and first article |
| Panel fit | Opening and contact position | Installed sample review |
| Module engagement | Seating and latch relationship | Intended module-pairing trials |
| Thermal path | Contact and airflow geometry | Representative thermal assessment |
| EMC boundary | Grounding and opening details | System-level assessment as required |
A blank difference field should mean reviewed and no difference found, not that nobody checked it. Preserve the compared document revisions with the table.

Figure 2. Official CZT SFP+ cage drawing provides another defined construction; matching port appearance does not establish mounting or panel equivalence. CZT source · Original PDF, page 1.
Validate the intended combinations
Use the modules and cables planned for the product, including relevant tolerance and operating cases. Record what was tested rather than issuing a broad compatible statement. A successful fit with one module does not establish every host and module combination or the final system's high-speed performance.
A hypothetical candidate may use the same panel opening but require a different PCB hole condition. It might be a practical alternative for a new board revision while being unsuitable for existing stock. The approval should distinguish those uses.
Agree how existing work-in-process boards will be handled. A candidate approved for a revised footprint should not enter older stock by purchasing substitution. Make the permitted board revision visible in both the BOM and receiving instructions.
Release the alternative with its exact part identity, permitted application scope and any revised manufacturing instructions. Keep it as a controlled BOM option rather than allowing purchasing to substitute by appearance. That makes the second source useful without hiding the engineering conditions under which it was accepted.
Connect this review to CZT product information
Catalog references to discuss are listed below. Use the identifiers to request the current drawing and confirm the configuration required by your application.
| Catalog reference | Product information | Drawing record | Reference inquiry |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10710111W064 | SFP+ 1x1 receptacle catalog record, 10710111W064 | Listed PDF | Ask about this reference |
| 10710111W028 | SFP+ 1x1 cage, 10710111W028 | Listed PDF | Ask about this reference |
A catalog drawing reference is a starting document, not a substitute for reviewing its revision, options and suitability for the complete assembly.

Discuss a drawing, sample or quotation
Share the part or family reference, current drawing revision, operating conditions and quantities. Include the specific checks described in this article so the inquiry identifies both the component and the evidence needed for your decision. Confirm sample availability and the proposed scope with the supplier.
