Choose Tab Up or Tab Down by reviewing latch access, board orientation and enclosure geometry together. The name describes an orientation convention; it does not establish that a connector will fit the same panel opening or use the same PCB footprint as another part.
Candidate drawings in the CZT integrated magnetics family should be compared from a consistent view. This makes the selection a mechanical decision that can be checked before tooling or PCB release.
Normalize the viewing direction
Place the connector mating faces in the same orientation on the comparison sheet. Mark the cable latch position, PCB plane and insertion direction. Preserve the original drawing-view labels so the comparison does not accidentally mirror one candidate.
Then inspect the footprint independently. Reversing the latch direction does not necessarily mirror every signal, shield or mounting pin. Check the internal circuit and board-side drawing rather than constructing an assumed footprint from the front view.

Test the service-access envelope
Consider how an operator releases the latch after the port is installed. A nearby wall, neighboring connector or cable boot may obstruct access. Space that is sufficient for insertion can still be inadequate for removal or field servicing.
Use the actual mating plug and boot shape when possible. Cable accessories vary, and a simplified bare-plug model can overlook the part that interferes with a dense panel.
Compare candidates using this matrix
| Decision area | Tab Up candidate | Tab Down candidate |
|---|---|---|
| Latch access | Record available release space | Record available release space |
| Board relationship | Record top and bottom envelopes | Record top and bottom envelopes |
| Footprint | Identify approved drawing | Identify approved drawing |
| Panel interface | Compare opening and shell position | Compare opening and shell position |
| Cable route | Check boot and bend envelope | Check boot and bend envelope |
A candidate that wins on one row may lose on another. The matrix shows the tradeoff without pretending that either orientation is inherently superior.

Work through a hypothetical enclosure decision
Suppose an equipment panel has a narrow shelf above the port and open space below it. One orientation may put the latch directly under the shelf, making removal awkward. The alternative could improve latch access but extend farther into the PCB assembly.
The correct next step is a controlled dimensional comparison and physical trial, not an immediate purchase based on the orientation name. Check insertion, latch release, cable movement and assembly order in the intended enclosure.
Freeze the reviewed configuration
Keep the selected drawing, panel detail and mating-plug reference together. Confirm that purchasing uses the exact approved orderable variant. If the enclosure, cable boot or PCB position changes later, revisit the service-access review because the original reason for choosing the orientation may no longer apply.
Connect this review to CZT product information
Start with the relevant CZT product family and provide the original interface reference or controlled drawing. Ask which configurations and supporting documents are available for the task described here. Confirm the mating arrangement, required features and project conditions before choosing an orderable part.
